Motorcycle Diaper-Cake

Another Baby Shower, but tired of making the stroller diaper cake... wanted to do something different!!  Looked at some different ideas and watched a few videos, and decided to do a tricycle or something like that...

It was SO MUCH FUN!!!  After I had it put together and finished all the tiny details to make it perfect, my daughter asked was it a motorcycle!?  HMMMmmm... I guess it could be!  :)

When I got to the shower, it was all awwwww's, as normal when you arrive with something different!  BUT everyone there assumed it was a motorcycle, so that's what I'll call it here as well!!

Butterflies Diaper-Cake

Finished the Butterflies Diaper-Cake tonight and it turned out to be really cute.. I think!  I hope that she loves it when I deliver it tomorrow!!

I had a hard time deciding which blanket to use over the base (the bed) of it, but my daughter said she liked the flowers; so, that's what I did!!

I really like the butterflies.. they are so cute!!

It's always nice to see it come together and blend...


I was really lucky this time to find receiving blankets that matched the big blanket PERFECTLY!

  

I actually really like this one... maybe even the the best of all the lil' girl ones that I have done so far!   :)

New York Yankees Diaper-Cake

When I was asked to do a Diaper-Cake with a Baseball theme, I wasn't excited!!  It's hard to find lil' boy stuff lately, especially baseball themed.

Top-it-off, they wanted New York Yankees!

I searched and searched online and couldn't find anything for a diaper-cake that was reasonably priced.


I went to almost every store in our local Mall & all the local stores that sell baby supplies.. finding NOTHING!!

Finally, I decided to look in the fabric department in our local Walmart.  I came across a cute baseball fabric that was reasonable in price that I thought might work great for this project!

Once I got it all put together, it was missing something, I thought!!  I don't normally use the same blanket on the bedding and pillow; therefore, it seemed to blend together TOO much!!  

The lady wanted New Your Yankees, but I couldn't even find a bib that had anything on it...

SO, I decided to get out my machine and cut a decal to place on the Diaper-Cake.  It turned out great and the parents could put the decal on their car or on the baby's wall... Where ever they decide really!

The final version of the New York Yankees Diaper Cake turned out amazing, I thought; and the lady who had it made and the mother were very happy in the end!!  That's all that matters in the end, right!!??  :)

Doggie Diaper-Cake

A little while ago I told you all about the new Doggie Diaper Cake that I had to do for a little boy, and gave you a peek at the materials that I had to incorporate into the diaper-cake.

It's been completed for a few weeks, but I just hadn't posted them yet.  Sorry!

I really hated that the doggie was in the corner on this one because it is difficult to get the diaper-cake to wrap correctly, and fitting in the corner of the head of the cake is a challenge.

But... It all came together!!  :)

It turned out CUTE... as they all do!!  But I did make the decision that I'm not getting any more blankets that have the design in the corner, if I can help it!! :)

Extra Credit?

Yesterday, out of the blue, I decided to make my daughter's teacher a Diaper-Cake.  I had thought bout it a few times; and wanted to do a 3 tier cake version for her. but deciding at the last minute made me grab what I knew I needed instead of getting a list of items and returning to the store later.

Bad thing about the spur-of-the-moment decision is that I had to work with what the Dollar General had; and that was limited for a little boy!  I grabbed the only fleece blanket left on the shelf and the last set of receiving blankets as well.. the design patterns didn't particularly fit what I wanted; but it turned out well considering (I think so at least, and she seemed to as well).

My oldest came home and seen it and asked "Who is that for?"; and when I said who, this was the response I got.. "That's Extra Credit right there. lol"

       

 This one was a little bit of a challenge since I wanted to add the baby's name and the money was on the corner of the fleece blanket...  But after many changes it worked out!

The name I cut with my Cricut Expression in Vinyl letters where she can use them on his wall, crib, or a sweet picture frame.

I took a lot of photographs while I was making this diaper-cake, and plan to use them in another post that will detail how to make one for your next baby shower; so, come back and check it out in the next couple of days!

How to Make Diaper-Cake Wheels

Depending how how big your Diaper-Cake is, may determine how many diapers you will need.  I usually use 10 for each wheel.. *40 Diapers total.

1. Take 8-10 Diapers and stack them on top of each other, then slightly slide them a little bit apart, and roll.  ((OR))  Take a small cake pan and wrap them around it.  *Add a large rubber-band to hold them in place.
2. Arrange the diapers as needed.

3. After you have two (2) wheels completed put your axle (paper towel center) in.  

      *You may have to adjust the diapers a little to make them perfect after doing this!

4. Add your Ribbon!

These wheels turned out amazingly.. I thought!  The diapers had a bubble type design that flowed perfect with the color scheme of the Diaper-Cake.

~I only wish my ribbon would have had the bubbles on the brown instead of the blue (or) had bigger bubbles... 

Making the wheels were a challenge for me with the first diaper-cake, but after getting the hang of it they come together quickly!

#TIP:  Make sure you have an idea of how the wheels will connect to the base of the diaper-cake before getting started.

Dance Shoes & Singing Birds Diaper-Cake

By far, I think this has been my favorite diaper-cake that I have made.  It all came together nicely (after I re-done it multiple ways).

I made this one for a family member.  We went to Walmart and purchased everything we needed based on the large blanket she choice, with the singing birds.

I wrapped the pillow differently this time where I could get the shoes showcased and used the extra ribbon to bring out the side and bake of the diaper-cake.

I loved it and so did the mom-to-be! What else could you ask for!?

Making a Diaper-Cake with Limited Funds

One of my great friends was having a precious baby girl; so, I thought I would make one for her.  Unfortunately, I was sick the day of her shower and didn't get the chance!  I decided that I would wait and make it to carry when I went to visit her at the hospital (getting to see the baby too :) )  

The week she gave birth to her precious daughter, I happened to be a little broke...BUT, I was able to make this for less than $25

The Dollar Tree has a great selection of items for any basket or creative baby gift!  There I was able to purchase the ribbon that I used on the base and wheels, and the bassinet head was covered with a pink fleece blanket (this blanket allows a little sculpting to make it look nice ~I think).

After getting everything I could there I headed to the Dollar General & Family Dollar stores to get my receiving blankets, bibs, paci, a few fake flowers just in case, and diapers.

With little money I purchased bigger sized diapers, which allows me to use less in the base and on each wheel; and it allows the mom to keep the gift in-tact a little longer too (if they'd like).

The polka dotted ribbon that was used on the bow (Dollar Tree) is awesome because it is lined with a metal on each side of the lace, which allows me to make the bow look fluffed and all so cute!

For some reason the back of this one wasn't working with the bib showing, like the first lil' girl one I had done; maybe, the different blankets were behind it (I don't know).  I decided to try a straight back instead, it worked well with the lil' boy diaper-cake; and it turned out pretty nice.  I think doing the back like this gave it a real bassinet look... simple, but blended perfectly.

At the Hospital, every one turned a head a awed at this gift :) and the mom was super excited to get it too!!  (She is my creative friend; therefore, she appreciates creative gifts more so than some others).

This is my 3rd diaper-cake and I am loving making them; however, I think the next lil' girl one has to have a different base receiving blanket.  I love the little pic and saying on this one, but I want to see what could be done with something different.. I can't wait!!

First Diaper-Cake for a lil' Boy

When I made my first Diaper-Cake Stroller, it turned out to be a great success!  At the Baby Shower the mom-to-be LOVED it!!  A friend asked me to make her one for a shower she had to attend the following week, but it was for a little boy.

*I was excited to have the chance to do another one and this time in blue!

I don't get to town much; so, I told my friend that she would need 

-about 100  diapers

-3 bibs

-3 receiving blankets

-a large blanket

-paci's

-and some ribbon 

*that would all fit in the same color scheme... and that is exactly what she brought me.

However, the large blanket was fleece and it did not have a large focal point (design) like the blanket I used in the first one and the receiving blankets didn't really work well together with it when the stroller was assembled...  hmmm... what to do?!

I bet I took the stroller apart 10 times and changed where each one went and how the base was wrapped, but in the end it turned out alright and my friend was pleased at the outcome!  She said the girl loved it; and it was the talk of the shower (so to speak)!  :)

The wheels were the best part, to me; they turned out to be beautiful!

I did a couple video clips during the making of the wheels; and hope to post'em when my laptop has been repaired!  

On my last stop at the store to grab some extra ribbon to make some last minute additions to the Diaper-Cake Stroller, I found some awesome ribbon that could make some really cool wheels!  I think I might go back and get some and try a hot-wheel or trike the next time! (lol)

My FIRST Diaper-Cake

When I decided to make my first diaper-Cake, I was shocked at how well it came out...

I was actually searching the web for scrapbook idea's, which led to some create crafts and ideas for other gifts.  Knowing I had a baby shower to attend soon, it sparked my interests when I seen a few diaper-cake ideas.

Watching how they were made made me believe that it was simple as pie; however, it was a challenge the first time... The wheels took a few tries to get them perfect!

After getting everything assembled and looking like a diaper-cake stroller.. something was missing!

 
My 1st Bassinet/Stroller Diaper-Cake: Before adding a few extra little changes!


I considered removing the red ribbon completely.. but decided to see what other things I could add spruce up the diaper-cake itself; and keep the wheels just the way they are!

The back looked nice before, but I decided to add a little ribbon and a paci to decorate it a little. 

I also added a paci at the pillow and a cute flower at the crown of the stroller; but something still needed to blend in the red wheels!? 

~I had a lite pink piece of ribbon that was wrapped around the receiving blanket that I had used for the bedding...

So, I decided it would be perfect for the front, and I think it was!

Adding a simple strip of red above it linked all together perfectly...

...and I think my first diaper-cake turned out better than I could have ever imagined!!

~Can't wait to make another one!!

The only ribbon I had at the time was red; and even though I LOVED the way it made the wheels pop out, I believed it made the rest of it look plain and not match what was going on with the wheels.
